Attendance Policy

In order to support student achievement, the LAUSE set an attendance goal for all students to maintain a Proficient/Advanced attendance rate of 96% or higher throughout the school year. This means that students must have:

  • No more than one absence for every five weeks (25 instructional days) of school
  • No more than SEVEN TOTAL absences during the school year.

We want to work with you to ensure that your child is in school every day. Here are some suggestions to help you and your child establish positive attendance habits:

  • Create morning ad evening routines
  • make sure your child gets enough sleep and eats a nutritious breakfast each day
  • Schedule all appointments for your child during non-school hours
  • Post school calendars and schedules in a visible place
  • Plan family vacations for non-school days only
  • Help your child develop a positive attitude toward school and learning by encouraging him/her to participate in school activities
  • Communicate often with your child's teachers and request assignments missed during absences

Please ensure that your child attends school every day and on time. Absences from school will only be excused for: illness, medical, dental appointments, and funeral services for immediate family members (1 day within CA and 3 days if our of state). Absence for any other reason will not be excused. Upon your child's return from any absence, please submit a note to the school office. If a note is not received within 10 days following the absence, it will be marked as unexcused. Please inform us of any issues that may be affecting your child's attendance including chronic health conditions.

Release of children from school

Children are not permitted to leave campus during the school day unless they are picked up at the office ONLY by an authorized adult (18 years or older) whose name is listed on the emergency card unless the parent/legal guardian has provided prior written authorization. Photo identification is required at the time students are picked up. Children are not permitted to wait in the office for parents when going home early.

Truancy

Unverified absences may result in your child being classified as truant. A truant is defined by the State of California as any student with 3 unexcused absences or tardiness in excess of 30 minutes or a combination thereof in one school year. The California Education Code section (E.C.)48260 requires school districts to notify parents when their child is classified as truant. LAUSE has automated the Initial Truancy Letters to notify parents/guardians in a timely manner. To avoid your child being classified as a truant, you must submit a note or documentation for all absences, tardiness, and early leaves to the school office.

We are available to offer support and guidance to address any issues that prevent your child from attending school regularly.
