Café LA Online Meal Application

www.applyforlunch.com

The new online meal application is ready for you to use. Parents and guardians can submit a meal application online starting July 1, 2019. The application will be processed within 24 hours, and you will not have to fill out a paper application and mail it or hand it over to the Food services Manager at your child’s school.

More about the CafeLA Program

The National School Lunch Act was signed on June 4, 1946 and established a federal program to help feed our nations schoolchildren. Today, in additional to the National School Lunch Act, other legislation has been adopted to support childhood nutrition such as the School Breakfast Program, Summer Food Service Program and Child and Adult Food Care Program.

The meal application process is federally mandated and the Food Services Division must follow all applicable regulations in order to continue to receive reimbursement funds. Each year the California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division, must approve our meal application. Once approved, we begin the annual process of qualifying students for free and reduced meal benefits. To see if you qualify for free or reduced priced meals you will need to fill out the application and submit it before the yearly deadline. A new application must be submitted every year.

Breakfast and Lunch Programs

  • Breakfast and lunch are important times in the school day for children to practice social skills and good table manners.

  • Children may bring a sack lunch or purchase lunch form the school cafeteria.

  • All students are eligible to eat breakfast at no cost through the Breakfast in the Classroom program.

  • Parents need to complete the application for the federal lunch every year. These applications are sent home by the District and should be returned to the school or completed online at achieve.lausd.net/cafela. You will be notified regarding your eligibility for free, reduced or full price meals. Since our funding relies on percentages, even parents who know their child will not receive free or reduces meals should apply.

  • Please make sure that your child has money for meals every day. It is the District's policy that students who forget to bring money receive a replacement meal (e.g. fruit and juice), not the regular meal on the menu.

  • Notify the cafeteria in writing if your child has any allergies or special dietary needs.

  • We want our children to be healthy as well as good students. We encourage your to limit junk good and discourage the consumption of sugary food items such as sport drinks, sodas, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and candy on campus.
